Why Most People Avoid Composting (And Why This Is Different)
Let’s be honest. People avoid composting because they worry about:
• Smells
• Flies
• Complicated systems
• Needing outdoor space
The Urban Composter removes those barriers.
It’s designed specifically for indoor or small-space use. No giant bins. No backyard required. No overwhelming setup.
Just a contained, manageable system that quietly turns scraps into something useful.
What Makes the Urban Composter Stand Out?
1️⃣ Compact, Space-Smart Design
Perfect for kitchens, balconies, or beside the house. It’s designed for urban living and doesn’t dominate your space.
2️⃣ Excellent Odour Control
This is the biggest question I get.
The tight-fitting lid combined with its ventilation system keeps smells contained. As long as the lid is closed properly, it’s suitable for indoor use.
Mine has sat indoors without becoming “that smell” in the house.
3️⃣ Fast Composting for Small Spaces
With a compost accelerator:
• Liquid fertilizer can be collected regularly
• Solid waste breaks down into pulp within about 6 weeks
That liquid fertilizer is incredibly valuable, especially for potted plants.
4️⃣ Durable and Easy to Clean
Made from sturdy materials that are simple to maintain. I’ve used mine for years and it still performs reliably.
5️⃣ Handles More Than Just Veggie Scraps
Unlike some compost systems, this one can handle:
• Fruit and vegetables
• Meat
• Cooked food
• Paper towels
That flexibility makes a huge difference in reducing overall kitchen waste.
Real-Life Results: My Experience
Since using the Urban Composter, I’ve eliminated nearly all of my kitchen food waste.
If the birds don’t get it, the composter does.
The liquid fertilizer has been especially valuable for anything planted in pots. Container plants deplete nutrients quickly, and this homemade feed gives them a noticeable boost.
The remaining pulp goes straight into my garden beds or outdoor compost pile.
It’s practical. It’s satisfying. And it makes sustainable living feel achievable.
Is It Right for You?
The Urban Composter is ideal if:
✔ You live in a small space
✔ You want to reduce landfill waste
✔ You don’t want complicated systems
✔ You’re new to composting
✔ You want fertilizer for container gardening
It may not be ideal if:
✖ You generate large volumes of food waste from a big household
Setup is simple. Clear instructions, minimal parts, no complicated tech. You add your scraps, close the lid, and let nature do its quiet work.

Hey, your Urban Composter review is a lifesaver for us urbanites! The compact design and odor control are real winners. I’m curious, though, how has the composter held up for you in changing weather conditions, especially since you recommended covering it if used outside? Would love to hear more about your experiences with that. Have a good one.
Hi Jake,
I appreciate your feedback. I’ve had my composter inside and outside over the years, when outside I usually keep it close to the house and I don’t actually cover the composter. My recommendation is that if you reside in an area that gets extreme heat, heavy frosts or snow you place the composter under some type of cover i.e porch, verandah or canopy. Hope that helps clear up any doubts. Cheers 🙂
